There really is safety in numbers.  Especially when the "numbers" are real, caring people who give of themselves to help in the mission of the Foundation.  Each year, Lauren's Circle of Strength grows.  More and more people join the circle and make it stronger, bigger and better.  Below are a few examples of the ingenuity and generosity of people who have joined in.  We are so grateful for their participation and partnership.

Home Sweet Home Day Care, Easton, PA

In August, 2007, children at Home Sweet Home Day Care under the care of Jennifer Wood, organized their own Refreshment Stand in our neighborhood.  The children organized their "business", manned their table and sold refreshements throughout the hottest week of the summer, with all proceeds going to Lauren's First and Goal.  They raised $100.00!!!   Thank you very much to all of the children and to Jennifer for all of your hard work!!  What a wonderful example of children helping other children.

Kasey and Joe Dougherty's Wedding

In celebration of their wedding in June, 2007, Kasey and Joe decided to make a generous donation on behalf of their wedding guests to Lauren's First and Goal.  Joe, the running backs coach at Lafayette, has been a volunteer at the camp since it's inception.  Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and for helping to raise awareness among your family and friends through your gift!

The Tracy Elementary School Staff Club

Staff at Lauren and Gracie's school, Tracy Elementary in Easton,  participate in a Dress Down Day each Friday in which staff members donate $1.  They recently chose Lauren's First and Goal Foundation as the recipient of a generous donation from the dress down campaign.  Thank you!!!

Chelsea is a sixteen year old from Long Island, who lives across the street from Lauren's Grama and Papa.   She exhibits a thoughtfulness and maturity beyond her age which is no doubt a reflection of the example set by her parents. Below is the scroll she created for guests at her Sweet Sixteen celebration. Thank you Chelsea and the Flaim-Fitzgerald Family for your generosity and kindness.

"Reporters' Challenge Charity Golf Outing" at Mountain Valley raises nearly $1,600

Three Eastern Pennsylvania-based charities were recipients of a total of $1,596 after 77 golfers participated in the third-annual "Reporters Challenge Charity Golf Outing" at Mountain Valley Golf Course near Barnesville and Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County, on Wednesday, May 17, 2006.

The biggest share of the money raised -- $1,046 when the golf receipts and silent auction amounts were tallied -- went to Lauren's First and Goal Foundation, an Easton-based charity that supports awareness and research of pediatric brain tumors, which are the No. 1 killers of young children. Lauren's First and Goal Foundation is named for Lauren Loose, the elementary school-aged daughter of Lafayette College football defensive coordinator John Loose. Lauren Loose has battled pediatric brain tumors. Log onto www.laurensfirstandgoal.org for more information on the foundation.

Mountain Valley general manager Ken Huebner announced that his golf course would donate $500 to the Schuylkill County area Special Olympics chapter on behalf of the tournament.

Event organizers Larry O'Rourke of The Morning Call newspaper sports staff, WBRE-TV 28 sportscaster Phil Schoener and Hazleton Standard-Speaker sports writer Sam Matta announced that the tournament also would send a check for $50 to the "Friends of the First Battalion." The Mountaintop-based "Friends of the First Battalion" recently held a charity golf tournament to benefit the children and widows of three Northeastern Pennsylvania members of the National Guard who were killed when their armored fighting vehicle was struck by enemy fire in Iraq. Scott Kinney, a Carbon County native who recently completed his six-year service with the United States Air Force with a six-month assignment to Afghanistan with a bomb-sniffing K-9 patrol, symbolically accepted the check. Kinney participated in the tournament with a foursome representing Arturo's Wilde Fern Restaurant of White Haven/Blakeslee.

In addition to the monetary donations, several dozen used golf clubs were donated by "Reporters' Challenge" participants to the "First Tee" program of the Lehigh Valley. "First Tee" introduces less fortunate youth to golf.

The event was won by a team representing Lafayette College's athletic department, including Scott Morse, Phil Labella, Don Frace and RCN-TV 4 sportscaster Gary Laubach. Their team fired a 12-under-60 won free rounds of golf donated by Mahoning Valley Country Club owner Ollie Angelus. A foursome that included sports writers Lou Rusnock of the Lehighton Times-News and Tom Housenick of the Sunbury Daily Item finished second, two strokes off the pace.

Prize and silent bid item donations for the event were made by Arturo's Wilde Fern Restaurant, Barley Creek Brew Pub brewmaster Tim Phillips, DBI Services of Hazleton, Allentown-based golf course architect Mark Fine, Ground Round Grill and Bar of Wilkes-Barre, High Elevations Restaurant, Hazleton Standard-Speaker newspaper, Lafayette College athletics, Mahoning Valley Country Club, McGinley's Pocono Trail Lodge, Mountain Valley golf pro Walt Tobash, Murphy's Loft Restaurant, New York Mortgage Company Loan Officer Charlie Daniels Jr., Palace Restaurant, Philadelphia Eagles, Platz's Restaurant, Pocono Music Productions, TB 903 Restaurant, TGI Friday's of Wilkes-Barre, T-102 FM/Pottsville Broadcasting Corporation, Sunrise Diner of Jim Thorpe and Whitetail Golf Club of Bath. Many of the prize donators participated in the event.

News organizations represented by reporters and editors at the event included The Morning Call of Allentown, Easton Express-Times, Hazleton Standard-Speaker, Lehighton Times-News, Sunbury Daily Item, West Chester Daily Local News, Wilmington (Del.) News Journal, WBRE-TV 28 and Syracuse University football and basketball radio networks.

East Stroudsburg University football coach Denny Douds, men's basketball coach Jeff Wilson, assistant men's basketball coach Justin Potts and sports information director Ryan Yanoshak were one of the foursomes in the field, and finished with a respectable 4-under-68 on Mountain Valley's Pine and Maple courses.

Andy Shoup, an Allentown-based golfer who annually ranks among the best players on the Lehigh Valley amateur circuit, also participated in the event.

Golfers drove from as far as Syracuse, Connecticut, New York City and South Jersey to participate in the event.

The previous two "Reporters Challenge Charity Golf Outings at Mountain Valley" attracted fields of 18 and 35 players, and raised a total of $750. Included was $400 that Mountain Valley donated to the Special Olympics and $270 that the participants designated to be donated to the family of Easton Police Officer Jesse Sollman, who died in the line of duty shortly before the 2005 golf outing.

Easton High School's  Almost Anything Goes competition is an annual event held each spring.  Students and staff battle each other in crazy relay events to raise funds for local charities.  This year, over $2000.00 was raised for LFG.  Thank you to Senior Molly Heffner for nominating LFG as the charity of choice and for all those who participated with such enthusiasm.  Lauren loved the Balloon pop!!
