David Baum, Jillian Brodhead, Christopher Ruhf, Carrie Sanal and Renee Schuck competed in the event that consists of a team relay, full and half marathon, and 5K walk, and covers 26.2 miles through Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton. The event coincides with Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, which is celebrated every September.

The teachers’ fundraising efforts benefit LFG, an Easton-based charity that supports pediatric brain tumor research and patient services. The charity is named for 13-year-old Lauren Loose, a student at EAMS 7/8 and one of Brodhead’s students.

“Lauren and her family inspire us every day and we wanted to do something for them,” said Brodhead. “We felt that a race would be a great event for us to participate in, and donate money to LFG. Our team had a great time and hopes to continue the tradition next year.”

Marianne Loose, who co-founded LFG with her husband John said they were grateful to the teachers for their help in raising money and awareness.

“The school district community has been very supportive of LFG throughout the years, and this group effort by the teachers is another wonderful demonstration of generosity and dedication – a tremendous way to lead by example for their students,” said Loose.

Anyone wishing to donate toward the group’s final marathon total can contribute through the end of September by clicking the donate button on our home page.
